Fiji Airways Soars to New Heights with Inaugural Dallas Flight

Fiji Airways marked a significant milestone on Tuesday, December 10, with the inaugural flight from Nadi International Airport to Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport, solidifying its presence in the United States and expanding opportunities for travellers.

The journey, aboard the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 named Island of Vatulele, touched down at 3:20 PM local time at DFW, greeted by enthusiastic passengers, dignitaries, and a vibrant celebration. For Fiji Airways CEO Mr. Andre Viljoen, it was a moment of pride and joy. “It was a special moment to witness the excitement on passengers’ faces as Fiji Airways, A350 Island of Vatulele, touched down at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport,” he shared.

Strengthening Global Connections
Dallas is now Fiji Airways’ 26th international route, with flights operating three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The non-stop 13-hour journey offers Texans and travellers across the U.S. a gateway to paradise. “You jump on the flight, and wake up in Paradise where the Bula Hospitality awaits you,” said Mr. Viljoen, highlighting that the award-winning service of Fiji Airways ensures every passenger’s holiday begins the moment they board.

The new route not only connects Fiji with Texas but also enhances travel options for passengers connecting to Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. This seamless connectivity strengthens the airline’s vision of positioning Fiji as a central hub for the Pacific.

Celebrating the Milestone in Style
In honour of the inaugural flight, a gala celebration was held at The Artisan in downtown Dallas. The exclusive event brought together notable figures from the aviation world, including Mr. Andre Viljoen, American Airlines CEO, Mr. Robert Isom, DFW International Airport CEO, Mr. Sean Donohue, and Mr. Nathaniel (Nat) Pieper, CEO of the OneWorld Alliance.

The evening was a blend of cultural and corporate sophistication. Guests were entertained by the melodious Primanavia Choir and the energetic performance of leading Fijian band InsideOut. The event embodied the spirit of Fijian hospitality, a hallmark of the airline’s identity.

Mr. Robert Isom, the CEO of American Airlines, lauded the partnership, saying, “American is thrilled to welcome Fiji Airways to our largest hub at DFW International Airport. As we continue to grow our partnership with Fiji Airways, we look forward to welcoming them to the world’s leading travel rewards program, AAdvantage, to provide customers even more benefits when flying on this new service to Fiji.”

Mr. Viljoen extended his gratitude to American Airlines and the OneWorld Alliance, as Fiji Airways prepares for full membership in 2025, a move that will enhance its global reach and customer benefits.

A Bright Future Ahead
The inaugural flight marks more than just a new route; it’s a step towards deeper international collaboration and growth. As Fiji Airways opens doors for more Texans to discover the Pacific, it also provides Fijians and Pacific Islanders with greater access to the world.
